Bungalow Guest Reviews
The home was every bit of the peaceful calming place to stay that we hoped for and we highly recommend staying. You’ll love it!
Jeffrey – January 2023
One of the most special places we have had the opportunity to stay at on this planet. A cozy and comfortable heritage home that feels like a cottage set in a spectacular neighborhood and five minutes from everything in a great city. Henry is one of the people who was born to host and loves to see people happy. We stayed a month and it was not long enough. Love this place.
Corrine – December 2022
Henry’s charming bungalow is larger than the pictures would lead you to believe. He provides everything you could possibly need for a wonderful stay, including breakfast items. We had a fantastic stay and recommend Erehwon without reservation! But please do make reservations;-)

This home was perfect for our family as we moved our son into his freshman year…
Barbara – August 2021
This is a gorgeous property located in a tranquil neighborhood of beautiful craftsman style bungalows. This two bedroom, two bath home was perfect for our family as we moved our son into his freshman year at University of South Florida (USF). USF is a quick 10-12 minute drive up the highway. Instead of cramming ourselves into a standard hotel room with all of my sons college belongings, we were able to spread out in this beautiful home for the same price as a hotel room. Henry, the proprietor, does not miss a single detail relative to guest comfort. While the home was built in 1920 and retains that beautiful historic flair, underneath that is every modern convenience you could want, fast internet, plenty of outlets for charging devices etc. Henry also provides so many lovely touches like the quality bedding, terrific kitchen essentials plus some extra niceties like a coffee grinder and a french press. Henry also leaves staples for breakfast, eggs, english muffins, juice, milk and coffee so you do not have to run to the supermarket the minute you arrive. Henry leaves no stone unturned when it comes to Covid safety from the sterilizing key holder to the UV lights he utilizes in between guests. Henry himself is just the right mix of available but unobtrusive. Every need we had he attended to right away. There is a lovely front porch, a nice living room and dining room and a cute den for our family to spread out in and relax after a hot day of moving our son into USF. I only wish we had more time to talk with Henry as not only is he a very interesting fellow, he is a wealth of information about the area. Book this property with confidence!

Wonderful location, comfortable beds, fabulous Owner. Perfect for our small family with an eight year old boy. Restaurants for both adult and family tastes just down the street (within three minutes) – all serving food to come back for. It doesn’t get any better than this (and we do at least two VRBOs a year). Henry’s house is wonderful.
40 minutes from the ocean, 15 minutes from the incredible zoo and museum, 3 minutes from Busch Gardens. (Hate to advertise – but the Citypass is amazing for Tampa).
Two parks with playgrounds within walking distance – neighbors are friendly, and the street is quiet.
A gem of a place and I am so grateful we found it at the last minute.
A little oasis!
Gill – March 2018
A thoughtfully prepared, stylishly furnished and decorated bungalow offering comfortable accommodation. Henry’s extras made it more like home. We appreciated the food supplies, toiletries, DVD collection and useful tips supplied by our friendly host and enjoyed sitting out on the adjoining deck and front porch. A relaxing stay.
Henry is a superb host and the Bungalow is a gem.
Rosemary and Doug – March 2018
We marveled at the harmonious color scheme and choices in furniture. Everywhere you look, your eye falls on something interesting and beautiful. And if you’re lonely or want entertainment, just ask Henry about his life in New York fundraising for the Brooklyn Academy or Music or rescuing the Joffrey Ballet from bankruptcy. Being here was such a pleasure!
A Magical Place
Hana, Jindrich, Sophie, and Julie – July 2017
The Bungalow was an amazing experience for us, it’s a magical place. We had a great time and we felt very comfortable here. Thank you for all the tips for trips, especially helpful as we came to you from the Czech Republic. We will post pictures on your website when we get home.

Judy and Rodger – July 2017
This was our first stay, a six week stay, at Henry’s Erehwon Retreat bungalow. My wife was having chemo-radiation treatments at The Moffitt Cancer Center and we wanted a place that would be more like home, safe, and away from the hustle bustle. Henry’s bungalow seemed to be what we were looking for and as it turned out it was. The bungalow was 15 minutes to the cancer center and downtown, as well as within minutes to route 275. The bungalow was cozy, warmly decorated, clean, and Henry was very hospitable. He met us there the first day to show us through the bungalow and explain some of the history of the house. After he left we were pleasantly surprised to find the refrigerator was populated with orange juice, milk, and other items. The cabinets were filled with spices, oils, and vinegar for your use. The best was the chocolate beside each bed. The neighborhood is in a Tampa historic district and we found the neighborhood to be friendly and safe for going on walks. Sitting on the porch, reminded us of our younger days at home – when people sat on the porch and neighbors walked by and visited. Henry provided a binder full of information about the area, things to do, and places of interest. We appreciated that they provide housekeeping, that was something we didn’t have to worry about while taking treatments. Henry is very responsive to any and all questions – a text is answered within minutes and he is usually there. This was the perfect comfortable place for our stay. Thanks again Henry!
Met our Needs and More
Edward – May 2017
We spent the entire month of April at Erehwon Retreat. Since it was quite a length of stay, we wanted a place that was comfortable and convenient to areas around Tampa. Since our youngest son and family live in Tampa, we were about 10-15 mins. from them. Erehwon Retreat met our needs and more. It is a lovely house and had the conveniences we needed to live comfortably. The kitchen was well stocked with all the appliances one needs to prepare meals, if needed. The beds were most comfortable and afforded a wonderful night’s sleep. The front porch with the swing and chairs was always an option when trying to find a place to read or just watch the world go by. The back patio was a nice place to sit and enjoy the breeze among the big camphor trees. Thomas, the cat, would show up often to receive a little attention or just sit and enjoy the breeze, as well. We couldn’t have asked for a more caring and helpful owner than Henry. He was very interested in providing for our every need. The house received light cleaning and changing of towels every third day – and the bed linens were changed weekly. We were most impressed with the quality of the towels and linens. Henry was most valuable in providing information as well as sharing about his travels and past work. We always enjoyed our conversations with him. Hopefully, we can return to Erehwon Retreat in the future. We know it will be lovingly taken care of and offer many travelers a home away-from home.
Beautiful, Clean, Convenient
Michelle – March 2017
We had a wonderful stay at the Erehwon Retreat. The bungalow was as pictured, a beautiful bungalow. It was clean and the kitchen was stocked with basic necessities which was very nice. It was located convenient to many attractions especially Steinbrenner Field and was in a nice neighborhood. The owner was very helpful with recommendations for restaurants and attractions. I would definitely recommend this rental to everyone and also the price was reasonable. We will definitely stay again whenever we come to Tampa.
Cottage Guest Reviews
1923 Cottage reminiscent of simpler days
James – February 2024
My best friend of 47 years and I had a magical 5 night stay at Erehwon Retreat the end of January 2024. This cozy and comfortable cottage is reminiscent of simpler times. Our morning walks netted many smiles and waves as well as a few delightful conversations with neighbors out in their yards. Great proximity to the airport, necessities, and easy access to Clearwater, St.Petersberg, Tarpon Springs, etc. Google “Erehwon” to learn the meaning and “Old Seminole Heights” to learn more about the area. I will definitely stay here again on future Tampa area visits.
A Tremendous Find
Kenya – July 2023
The Cottage at Erehwon Retreat was a tremendous find for me! It was just what I needed. Clean, homey, well appointed, private, quiet, and conveniently located. Having the owner next door on the same property made it even easier to ask questions and discuss my needs.
The Cottage is truly charming and a great place to relax, read, write, watch movies, and have a home base after a day out exploring, at the beach, or whatever. It was great not to have to go out and be able to prepare my own coffee and meals there but it is also conveniently located to food shopping, restaurants, Interstate 275 and several major thoroughfares like Hillsborough Ave. and Sligh Avenue. It is also a short ride to West Tampa, downtown Tampa, the University of Tampa, and Ybor City. It is also a short ride north if you want to see what I call the “lake country.” Tampa has a a lot of beautiful lakes and parks.
I highly recommend this property for anyone/a couple looking for a very special, private experience!
A Wonderful Place
Mira – March 2023
A little distance to the beach but I found some lovely parks I enjoyed. The kitchen has everything I needed, the sheets were so comfortable. I loved this place so much. It was perfect for my week stay in Tampa while I studied.
Tampa Gem
Carrie – July 2021
Henry was a marvelous host – I am a Tampa native and love the Seminole heights area, his place is a well located gem. I would definitely stay again! 🙂
Exceptional
Jan (The Czech Republic) – June – July 2022
The place was really very nice, clean and well maintained. The kitchen was perfectly equipped. There were also plenty of little useful things like a picnic bag, sunscreen spray, key sterilizer, e.g. A really very nice and helpful bonus was the initial food supply that the host supplied for us. This accommodation met and even exceeded my expectations. There is going to be a change of ownership during this season – we wish the new owner to do as well as the founder. Henry, has set a very high standard. 10 points absolutely deserved (need to notice that I am quite a strict client, spoiled by 5* all inclusive resorts).
Exceptional
Oliver – April 2022
Excellent location and the premises were very well kept! Host was perfect in looking out for our needs and was always checking in on us! We couldn’t have asked for a better stay!
Perfect spot for a “workcation.”
Andrew – February 2021
Awesome neighborhood and easy access to the highway. Henry takes great care of the place and is very responsive.
This Place was Amazing!
Chrisley – August 2020
This place was amazing, and my boyfriend and I miss it! 5 out of 5 stars! For two people, it is quite spacious and extremely comfortable, with a bedroom, a bathroom, kitchen, and living room area. Each room had everything we needed, even including a French press in the kitchen for making coffee. The host, Henry, came by frequently to make sure our paper supplies – ie, toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, paper towels, etc – were still stocked. He also came by once a week to collect towels, sheets, and other linens that needed laundering and was all in all an extremely attentive host. He also paid attention to the needs that the pandemic would present, such as providing a UV sanitizer box that held the keys in the living room. Each room was neat, clean, and well-decorated, with lots of well-thought out details like a 1920’s vintage theme. There are lots of DVDs in alphabetical order, a power bank with chargers for a variety of phones, and more. I spent many wonderful mornings sitting in the living room looking out of three walls of windows into the beautiful all native plant foliage on the property, watching the rain glance off of the many leaves and flowers. The whole property itself is basically a garden, one that exemplified lots of care and thought on the part of the host and which we had many lovely conversations about. Outside of sheer comfort, the area’s location is also very central to many parts of Tampa. It is so close to Florida Ave. Important details such as parking, WiFi, etc., were no issue. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Tampa, and I’m very thankful to Henry for the lovely stay that we’ve had. The next time we visit Tampa, this will be the first place we think of!
Breathtaking Location
Takiyah – June 2019
Seminole Heights is a beautiful neighborhood with beautiful homes. The cottage was cozy and perfect for me while I completed an intense yoga training over the course of 3 weeks. Henry was so kind and knew exactly what I needed before I needed it. I was so grateful to have a safe comfy environment while I was away from home.
Personality inside and out
Lynne – April 2019
What I enjoyed most about Henry’s place was meeting Henry, and hearing his stories about his properties and how they fit in to Florida history. He offers excellent tips for what to do in the area. The location is beautiful, surrounded by greenery, and is very quiet. There are numerous dining options within a couple of miles of the cottage.
Adorable, Everything you Need is There
Ana – November 2018
Henry is the best host ever! Attentive and thoughtful. His place is in a wonderful residential area but only a block away from restaurants and a beautiful garden. The cottage is adorable, everything you need is there. Plenty of pillows and towels of good quality and extremely clean. we will visit again soon!
Attention to Detail
Veronica R – Decemeber 2017
Henry is the penultimate host with the most charming, centrally located cottage in Tampa. Fantastic local breweries and restaurants close by and easy access to freeways. The attention to detail and welcoming package of a kitchen pre-stocked with breakfast items was the icing on the cake.

An Absolute Dream
Mary – March 2017
Henry’s cottage was an absolute dream. It was exactly what we were looking for – central, cozy, and stocked with everything we could possibly need or want. The cottage looked exactly like the photographs, it’s a very cute, historical space and we immediately felt at home. Henry was a wonderful host and was chalk full of recommendations and suggestions for restaurants and activities in the area. Take him up on his suggestions, he knows what he’s talking about! Thanks for the great stay, Henry!

Peaceful Urban Retreat
Liz – October 2016
It’s hard to know where to begin with the superlatives regarding Henry’s perfect gem of a cottage in Tampa. The place is very much as pictured: thoughtfully decorated, well-equipped, in a charming neighborhood of ’20s bungalows. What the photos online don’t fully convey is all the small extras that make staying here like a trip to visit a good friend. Henry not only provides far more than the average kitchen supplies (fresh milk and oj, spices, teas, coffee, etc. etc.) but has gone the extra mile in thinking about other supplies you might have forgotten – like bug spray or nail polish remover! The bed is comfortable, bathroom is small but perfectly thought out and the shower has better water pressure than mine at home. And the selection of movies was so eclectic and wonderful my friend and I interrupted our marathon talk-fest to watch one we couldn’t resist. Our only regret was not being in Tampa long enough to take full advantage of the wealth of local info our thoughtful host provided – in the form of hiking, boating, biking guides, maps to local and not-so-local attractions, and a patient willingness to be grilled for more advice any time. Henry is a perfect host and we couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more.
Cute
Suzanne – August 2016
Henry was so great and the house was so cute and cozy! I loved it! He even had amenities in the house like orange juice, milk, popcorn, and condiments! It was definitely amazing and the bed was SO comfortable. Henry even had really luscious robes and slippers for lounging. If you want a cute spot in the middle of up and coming Seminole heights, stay here!
Great Cottage
Candi – June 2016
Erehwon was such a great little cottage! It had everything we needed and the location was beautiful. Henry was a fantastic host and very thoughtful. He even came over and let us know when there were 4 falcons in his tree so we could take some photos. We will definitely stay with Henry again if we find ourselves back in Tampa!
